Alan Jackson Receives Eight Nominations;
Brooks & Dunn and Toby Keith Receive Five Nominations Each;
Jimmy Buffett and Martina McBride, Four Each;
Kenny Chesney and Brad Paisley, Three Each;
Tim McGraw, Montgomery Gentry and Randy Travis, Two Each
BURBANK (March 10, 2004) - Nominations have been announced for the 39TH ANNUAL
ACADEMY OF COUNTRY MUSIC AWARDS. Winners will receive their awards
during a star-studded event to be broadcast LIVE from the Mandalay Bay
Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. The ceremony, which honors country music's
top talent as well as the industry's hottest emerging talent, will be broadcast
on Wednesday, May 26th, 2004 at 8:00 PM ET/PT on CBS Television Network.
The Academy of Country Music's Leading Lady, Reba McEntire, will host.
This morning Alan Jackson received eight nominations. Brooks & Dunn and Toby
Keith received five nominations each. Jimmy Buffett and Martina McBride received four
nominations while Kenny Chesney and Brad Paisley received three each. Tim McGraw,
Montgomery Gentry and Randy Travis each received two nominations.
The nominees were announced at a press conference held today at the St.
Regis Hotel in Los Angeles. Among those participating in the press conference
were ACADEMY OF COUNTRY MUSIC AWARDS executive producer Dick Clark; country music
superstars Terri Clark, Montgomery Gentry and Brad Paisley; and Bob Romeo,
Executive Director for the Academy of Country Music.
Members of the Academy of Country Music select the nominees and winners of the
ACADEMY OF COUNTRY MUSIC AWARDS. Presenters and performers who will appear
on the special will be announced at a later date.
Charlie Daniels, Martina McBride and Brad Paisley were nominated for the Academy
of Country Music / Home Depot Humanitarian Award. Known as the first "Fan-Voted"
award in the Academy's history, this honor salutes an artist or group in the
country music industry who is committed to serving others, has a generosity of
spirit and a dedication to helping build the dreams of those in need.
The recipient of The Home Depot Humanitarian Award will have a community playground
built in a city of their choice through the efforts of The Home Depot and
KaBOOM!, a non-profit organization that brings together volunteers to build
much-needed playgrounds in one-day "barn raising" construction events.
2004 also marks the renaming of the ACM/LAUNCH Video of the Year
category (formerly known as Video of the Year). For the very first time
Associate Members of the Academy of Country Music will vote for their
favorite video through this premium online fan club, available on
the Web at http://www.acmcountry.com or http://acm.launch.yahoo.com.
