WHO Des Moines, IA

About The Disc Jockey / Emcee

Dick Anderson became an emcee on the WHO Barn Dance Frolic when the popularity of the show became such that audiences were clamoring for longer shows. He graduated from the University of Iowa in 1934, coupled with training in dramatics, went to work with the WHO staff in Des Moines, Iowa.

By the late 1930s, it appears he was handling quite a bit of the Barn Dance Frolic emcee chores, including they wrote, the closing part of the broadcast from the WHO studios after 10:30pm.
