WGWD Midway Jamboree
The Midway Jamboree aired over WGWD out of Gadsden, Alabama, a town northeast
of Birmingham. The main act for this show was a fellow by the name of Lee
Bonds who came on the hillbilly music scene with a couple of hit recordings
for Capitol Records in the summer of 1952.
The only other information we could find about this show was a list of the
cast members of the show back then:
- Lee Bonds (Capitol Records)
- Smiley Wilson (Republic Records)
- Kitty Carson (Republic Records)
- Little Rita Faye (MGM)
- Lucky Joe Almond (Trumpet Records)
- Sonny Sims
- Chester Studdards
- Larry Garmon
- Junior Scott
- Johnny Herrin
- AL Ferrel
- Bill Roberts
- Bobby Cox
Several of the artists had recording contracts with some of the major labels
of the day.
