WGWD Midway Jamboree

The Midway Jamboree aired over WGWD out of Gadsden, Alabama, a town northeast of Birmingham. The main act for this show was a fellow by the name of Lee Bonds who came on the hillbilly music scene with a couple of hit recordings for Capitol Records in the summer of 1952.

The only other information we could find about this show was a list of the cast members of the show back then:

  • Lee Bonds (Capitol Records)
  • Smiley Wilson (Republic Records)
  • Kitty Carson (Republic Records)
  • Little Rita Faye (MGM)
  • Lucky Joe Almond (Trumpet Records)
  • Sonny Sims
  • Chester Studdards
  • Larry Garmon
  • Junior Scott
  • Johnny Herrin
  • AL Ferrel
  • Bill Roberts
  • Bobby Cox
Several of the artists had recording contracts with some of the major labels of the day.
