About The Group
In 1953, every Saturday afternoon at 12:15pm over WBIR out of Knoxville, 1240 on the AM dial, you would have heard the Tennesse Pioneers on a show called "The Ranch House". The band had been together for about two years by then. The emcee for the show was staff announcer, Charlie Pickle. He also sang a few tunes on the show with the Tennessee Pioneers providing the background backup for him. They said Roy Wells and Gene Hammock could play and sing so well, they could make your neck hairs stand up and give you goose pimples. The steel guitarist got everyone in the mood to start dancing, Harvey Reynolds. Ray was said to be able to keep your attention with the way he plucked the strings on the bass.
