About The Artist
Research of Fiddlin' Red Herron started from work on another biography. Rural Radio magazine mentioned the folks that were part of Cousin Emmy's Kinfolk in the June 1938 issue. Peggy Stewart detailed the names and even provided birth dates. She wrote that Fred Herran was born in Cincinnati on December 1, 1918. However, after trying several searches in Ancestry, it was discovered that his real name was John Fred Herron and was actually born on December 1, 1917 in Cincinnati.
That in turn led to discovering his obituary in The Indianapolis Star in January of 1992. His obituary mentioned a self-employed musician and had retired in 1984.
