About The Artist
Eric Charles Edwards was born in Wiltshire, England back in 1920 and grew up to be five foot six Alberta Slim, one of Canada's famed hillbilly singers. At one point in his career, he was the only recording star that featured a performing elephant in his act. For trivia buffs, the elephant's name was Susie and weighed about 1.5 tons at the time and was expected to grow to over 3.5 tons when she 'grew up'. His traveling show also included a palamino who could do tricks named "Kitten Junior" and four trick dogs. He was on radio station CKCK out of Regina, Saskatchewan in 1938 and 1939. From there he was on CFQC in Saskatoon from 1940 through 1944 and then back to Regina on CKRM from 1945 to 1947. And he was also in New Westminster off and on during those periods, too. He got his first big record with "When It's Apple Blossom Time In Annapolis Valley" in 1949 on the Gavotte label. Later, he got the attention of the folks at RCA Victor and recorded tunes such as "Waltz Evelina Waltz", "You Say I'm A Fool", "My Annapolis Valley Home", "It's Too Late To Care". Credits & Sources
