About The Artist Perry Douthit was born in Clarinda, IA, a town southeast of Omaha, NE and east of Shenandoah, IA. His radio career spanned some 41 years. As an entertainer and announcer, he worked at KFAB in Lincoln, NE. He was a commercial salesman at KLMS in Lincoln. Some promotional ads for his appearances touted him as "Iowa's Gift to Nebraska." He retired from KLMS in 1973. He was known as an Irish balad specialist and singer of old-time songs. He was one of the most popular acts on KFAB in the 1940's. He operated a music store in Eureka Springs, AR Perry died on a Sunday in an automobile accident that occurred on U.S. 71 near Maryville, MO at the age of 63. Upon his death a reader wrote The Lincoln Star reflecting on Perry's impact on the community that knew him. "Perry Douthit's accident leaves many of us who knew him with deep feelings of sorrow. The world has lost a fine man. As a patron of our school, he left nothing to be desired. He was deeply interested in the welfare of his sons and concerned about all children. As a radio announcer, he was one of the best. His fine voice was very pleasing to his listeners, and his good philosophy came through in his comments. We who knew Perry shall miss him." Eunice L.
