About The Artist Tommy Howard was a native of Big Sandy, Texas. While growing up, he learned to play instruments such as the fiddle, banjo, bass and steel guitar while performing with his uncle's band (an article we found did not name his uncle's band). When he was 16 years old, tommy lost his left hand at his job at a lumber mill. This didn't stop his musical aspirations as he then later formed his own band and concentrated on his vocal work. As his career went on, they mentioned he lead the staff band for the "East Texas Hillbilly Roundup". (No mention of where or when this was.) In 1950, he moved to California. There, he had a disc jockey show over KHSH out of Chico, California and was singing with a band on Saturday nights at a place called "The Barn" in Orland, California.
