About The Artist
This group of five gentlemen were working on KFNF in Shenandoah, Iowa and appearing on the KFNF Barn Dance on Saturday nights. They also had their own show at 10:30 each morning. The group specialized in cowboy and hilbilly music, but on occasion, they could do a popular tune of the day. Smilin' Sid McIlvain was a bit of a fiddle player as well as a comedy type singer. They said once in a while he'd sing one of his comic ballads that would run anywhere from five to fifteen minutes! Buckshot Dilly would announce over the air to the audience with a cheery "Hello to everybody fer and near." In a side note, those were real buckskin jackets worn by the group, provided by the clothing department of the Henry Field store. Timeline and Trivia Notes Group Members included:
