George W. Wilkerson
and His Fruit Jar Drinkers
Born:  July 8, 1895
Died:  March 5, 1954
WSM Grand Ole Opry

About The Artist

G. W. Wilkerson and his "Fruit Jar Drinkers" were one of earliest acts on WSM's Grand Ole Opry. It was noted that they did not live up to that name in actual life. They wrote that probably the name was somewhat responsible for the fact that their most popular tune was "The Bully of the Town."
