In Gene Autry Oklahoma (there really is a town by that name)
each September they hold the Annual Gene Autry Film and Music Festival
where fans have a wonderful time listening to cowboy music and watching
Gene Autry Movies. It truly is one of the worlds best kept secrets.
The request is for a cash donation to help this non-profit 501c3 Gene
Autry Oklahoma Museum put air-conditioning into what is now known
as Tumbleweed Hall. I know you're saying "Ask Gene's Widow for money" but
this museum is not a part of them. This Gene Autry Museum in Oklahoma
stands on it's own two feet and is funded by grants and donations. The
walls, halls, classrooms and old assembly hall is full of Gene's, and
other film cowboys memorabilia collected by Elvin Sweeten who runs the
place.
This museum is located about 20 miles north of Ardmore, Oklahoma and
is housed in the town's old school building. The main building now
has air but we need to put air-conditioning in what was once the school's
gym. It is a separate building which also houses a small cafe.
Oklahoma can be hot in September and I (Janet McBride) am heading up
the effort to make this 'air' happen. I have been singing at the festival for
at least the last 6 years and I say from experience that
the entertainers who sing on the Tumbleweed Stage are uncomfortable. The vendors
are set up in this building also and many a fan in the audience has
to leave in the middle of a performance because it is just too warm
in there.
We could use your $1.00 or $100.00 dollars or more. You can send it
