The Radio Rangers

About the Group About The Group Lloyd Wright headed up The Radio Rangers, a group that wa out of Canada way in the London, Ontario area in 1957. Lloyd was a bit of a workhorse in action. He had a regular disc jockey show that aired each day from 5:00am until 10:00am, he also had a Saturday night show he hosted that was on from 6:30pm to 10:00pm that he called "Hometown Jamboree". On top of that, he was also on CFPL-TV every Saturday afternoon from 2:00 until 4:30pm. In between the work on the radio and TV, the group squeezed in over 200 personal appearances a year and had been doing it reportedly for nearly five years. An article in 1956 indicates the group was in their fifth year on CFPL radio in London, Ontario with their show called "Saturday Night Western Revue". That show started off as a 15-minute show and grew to a one-hour show and had one of the highest night time ratings for the station. They also scored another first by becoming the first local group to get a contract with the then new television station in town - CFPL-TV. On top of that, they had their contract renewed as another first for the station - for a full 52 weeks. They had a half-hour tv show called "Saturday Afternoon at the Corral". They were at one time recording on the Sparton Label and in 1957, had released "Julayda Polka" b/w "Boogie Roll". On top of that, they were the first local group to ever appear at the swankiest tavern in London at the time, "Campbell's Tavern".
