About The Group

The Buckaroos were a popular hillbilly band that had a show over WHO in Des Moines, Iowa every weekday morning at 8:10am and 11:30am and also on Saturdays from 9:00 to 9:30am. It was a quite a group with a range of experience.

Slim Hayes was the head of the group, was from Blackwell, Oklahoma and had been in radio just about 22 years as of 1953, including 14 at WHO. Jack Lester had been with the group ten years as had Red Scobee. Charley Adams was only 20 years old at the time. Joe Zanotti had only been with the group since February the year previous.

The Buckaroos also appeared on television on WHO-TV every Wednesday at 1:30pm. Slim Hayes also hada kiddies program called the "Lucky 13 Ranch" that was broadcast weekdays at 5:00pm on WHO, too.
