Norman was a master of ceremonies on the WLS National Barn Dance back in the early 1940s. He got his start on radio as a sportscaster, covering boxing matches, wrestling, racing and other forms of sport. Before embarking on his career in radio, he was a sports writer in Chicago and on the west coast.

They said at one time, he held 72 swimming records, more than anyone had before or since!
