About The Artist
Darlene (Darleen) Williams was one of the stars of the KFH Barn Dance Frolic show in Wichita, Kansas. She shows up in promotional ads in 1939 when the show was originating from the Alaskan Ice Palace. An ad touts her as "...the miniature edition of Kate Smith — the smallest pack of singing dynamite ever heard."
Her popularity was such that in a newspaper photo with a story promoting the 47th broadcast of the Barn Dance show in December 1939, she is front and center in front of the rest of the cast consisting of the Ark Valley Boys and others.
She became known as the "Sweetheart of the KFH Barn Dance Frolic" and had gained quite a reputation in the Southwest for her effots heard over the air.
