About The Artist

Betty Lobulia Buchanan was born in 1935 to parents Millard (Buck) and Pauline (Franklin) Buchanan in Avery County, NC.

Betty grew up in Spruce Pine, NC and worked with her father, Millard (Buck) Buchanan. As Betty and Buck, they performed at church socials, family gatherings and stage shows.

While still in her teens, her song writing got noticed and the Acuff-Rose Publishing Company signed her. In 1952, she co-wrote (as Betty Buchanan) a tune with Jimmie Skinner called, "Women Beware (Of The Ramblin' Kind)."

She put the brakes on her career as a performer in 1955. On June 30, 1955, she married Jesse Thomas Fisher, Jr. in Shallotte (Brunswick County), NC. It would be 17 years later that she took up performing again.
