About The Artist

Jim Nesbitt was primarily a disc jockey from South Carolina who also sang and had a talent for humorous songs, often with a flair for political satire. Although never part of the Nashville scene, he managed to put thirteen songs on the Billboard charts over a decade. He also appeared on many package shows during the course of the 1961-1970 years. Some of his numbers had a "talking blues" nature, particularly those that looked at year-by-year political situations.

A native of Bishopville, South Carolina, Nesbitt worked there as a deejay. His initial recordings first appeared on small labels, but the masters were sold and later appeared on the larger Dot, all within a matter of weeks. Jim also made frequent TV appearances on the Slim Mims Show in Florence, South Carolina.

After signing with Chart Records, Nesbitt seemed to hit his stride with "Lookin' for More in '64," which was on the charts for 24 weeks, peaking at number 7. He followed it up with "Still Alive In '65," "Heck of a Fix in '66," "Clean the Slate in '68," and "Havin' Fun in '71." Other memorable non-political songs included "Tiger in My Tank," "Truck Drivin' Cat with Nine Wives," and "Running Bare." Chart released three LPs of his material, and later a Scorpion one.

By 1973, Jim's songs had dropped from the charts and he signed with other labels, but his later recordings failed to restore the magic that had worked earlier. He made his last recording in 1988. He reportedly was in the mobile home business in Florence, South Carolina and died two days prior to his 76th birthday.
