About The Artist Dayton Harp was a hillbilly act that was recording for the Four Star recording company back in 1952, on the Gilt Edge label. His nickname was the "Dixieland Drifter". His first three releases were all original tunes by him. In fact, his first recording was also recorded by Big Jeff and the Radio Playboys on the Dot label - "Fast Women, Slow Horses and Wine". In 1952, Dayton's recording of "I Love You And I'll Never Change My Mind" was being played by folks. Dayton was performing in the Florida area back then. He was also a veteran of the armed forces and a survivor of the sunken aircraft carrier, YOrktown. He got the Distinguished Flying Cross for action against the enemy during a battle in the Coral Sea on May 8, 1942. Later, he married the former Louise Mims and had a daughter named Penny.
