About The Artist The Singing Blacksmith never used his real name on the air. They wrote that he wanted people to wonder who he was. He enjoyed that bit of mystery - for he would often hear folks talk about his show but didn't know they were in the presence of the guy that did the show. He was born in Sampson County in the south east area of North Carolina. In the early 1950s, he was a regular featured act over WSSB in Durham, NC. Rounding out his act at the time was his daughter, Norma Jean who played accordion and Freddie Moore, who was said to be one of the better steel guitar players in the south. Credits & Sources
