About The Artist

Along about 1953 or so, this group was entertaining the folks out of Lincoln, Illinois over radio station WPRC. They were celebrating their first anniversary on the station back then. The group enjoyed some national exposure when they appeared on the infamous Ernest Tubb Midnight Jamboree radio show over WSM out of Nashville, Tennessee.

Jimmy Powell was the lead of the band, doing the vocals and playing the guitar. Vern Creager was the fiddle player; Johnny Wiggen provided the steel guitar backup. The Sunshine Sweethearts were known for the harmonies in their duet songs and Shirley played the accordion.
