About The Artist Sue Thompson was born about 1929 on a farm near Nevada, Missouri. When she was a teenager, the family moved to California. Her big break was basically a spur of the moment chance. She was attending one of Dude Martin's dances in San Jose, California. She happened to be standing in front of the bandstand when she got invited to sing a number wiht the band. No one can remember what she sang, but they wouldn't let her off the stage. And the next night, she was performing her magic for the folks up in Redwood City, near San Francisco. That led to her getting a part on Dude Martin's San Francisco televsion show. Dude Martin knew he had a good talent and got her signed to a contract quickly. And wouldn't you know it, he got her under another type of contract two years later when he married her. She signed with the Mercury record label and her first record was "Angel's Cry". Then she had a hit wiht "If You Want Some Lovin". Dude Martin kept his show in San Francisco for about two years more and Sue was with the show. Then Dude decided he wanted to go down to Hollywood and try his luck on television there. And it must have worked for they were one of Hollywood's most popular western shows on KTTV, channel 11, since September 12, 1951 and was still going strong in 1955. Credits & Sources
