Born:  September 28, 1933
Died:  September 27, 2011
KWKH Louisiana Hayride

About The Artist

Johnny Mathis was a native of Texas and sometimes called "The Personality Kid". He appeared on such shows as the Big D Jamboree in Dallas, Texas, the Liberty Jamboree, the EZ HOedown in New Orleans, Louisiana and by 1952, the KWKH Louisiana Hayride show.

On KWKH, he had a daily show that was on at 6:30am.

Johnny was often called "Country" Johnny Mathis, perhaps to distinguish him from the famous pop singer of the same name. He was a native of Maude, Texas. By 1952, he had got his first recording contract, but they didn't mention which label. He recorded at one time on the "D" record label.

Johnny was a bit of a songwriter, penning such tunes as:

  • Suspense
  • Love Fever
  • You're Just Imagination
