About The Artist

Tex Fletcher mentioned that it was in the early 1930s while living in Buffalo, South Dakota that he heard his first authentic cowboy songs. He got interested in them for their simplicity and began to study the cowboy ballads and American folk music.

He got his first job at the Village Barn in New York City. A radio station executive heard him playing there and gave him an audition. He got six fifteen-minute shows per week as a result.

Tex also mentioned that he had the honor to play for President Franklin D. Roosevelt. He considered that to be the high spot of his career then.

He signed a contract with Grand national Pictures in 1938. He had recorded for the Decca, Flint and Vocalion record labels.

He got married in 1947 to a young lady who was an Army nurse and they had a son named Robert.
