About The Artist

The information we have found about Bob McKnight and his Ranch Boys is sketchy at best. But something is better than nothing. Bob McKnight was a blind country music singer who entertained his listening audience over radio station WMS out of Memphis, Tennessee.

Way back in 1946, we read in National Hillbilly News that Jimmie Busler had just wrote a new song called, "Little Old Shack On The Plains" and Bob McKnight and his gang were rehearsing the song to do over the air in Memphis. Jimmie lived in Memphis at the time (the article even included his address) and mentions that he had co-wrote the song with Mollie Davis of Indianapolis, Indiana.

We read later in 1946 in Mountain Broadcast and Prairie Recorder that another singer was working at WMC at the same time as Bob but later found her way to Atlanta and WSB and the WSB Barn Dance - Willie Mae Thomas, better known as Little Ne-Hi to fans.

We were then lucky enough to come into a photo postcard of Bob McKnight and His Ranch Boys thanks to Joyce Stanford. That postcard had the first names of the members of the group at the time and doing some further research, we think we have found the names of the members. One former member, Herman (Horsehair) Buggfuzz went on to work at WSB for quite some time and was the master of ceremonies on the WSB Barn Dance as well.
