About The Artist
His real name was John Stockdale, but was known to the radio listeners as Big John. He was from south western Pennsylvania, born in 1914. When he was two years old, me moved to H, Kentucky, where his dad had a job at the time. A few years later, the family moved back to Pennsylvania, then later to northern West Virginia. Tragedy struck Big John about one year after he was married for he lost his eyesight in both eyes and was nearly blind for a year and a half. He stopped doing his radio work back then. But later, thanks to an operation, he was able to regain sight out of one eye. From Latest Edition of Songs You Love To Hear Complete Pictures and Stories of Big John, Betty and Helen and Baby Bill
