About The Artist

Growing Up With Pride in Country Music

Charley Pride was born on a farm near Sledge, Mississippi. From there his career took him from the cotton fields to mining in Montana to the baseball field of dreams to becoming a legend in the country music field. Like many fans, we have our favorite performer and many years ago when we first heard Charley doing "Kaw-Liga" over WJJD in Chicago, we became a fan for life. You can't explain it - but fans will know the feeling we speak of.

Charley would often make light of his situation or 'uniqueness' as he put it in one way. Back then in the mid to late 1960s, we didn't know he was 'unique' - a black person doing country music. In fact, it took us sometime to actually find out what he looked like. I had liked country music growing up, discovering it playing my mom's old 78s - a Hank Williams record, playing "Never Again Will I Knock On Your Door" - it just captivated me. Then I flipped the record over and got to know "Lovesick Blues". But this one's about Charley and in a sense, how a fan followed and enjoyed his career, and the milestones along the way.

We've set this one aside for a time, but we think it's time to tell his story and at the same time, how a fan followed his career. We traveled a lot in our early career and somehow were lucky enough to see Charley in person in various venues over those years.

And yeah Charley, we did buy, one or two or sixteen. The Singles. The Albums. The CDs. And enjoyed them all. And still do.
